An Associate Director for African Health Initiative is sought in New York.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Program Director for Medical Research, the Associate Director for the African Health Initiative (ADAHI) will serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the African Health Initiative (AHI), and be responsible for planning, implementation, management and evaluation of all grants made as part of the AHI. The ADAHI will be responsible for strategic planning, as it relates to political, fiscal, and social issues relating to the African health landscape. S/he will provide
leadership in the development of new projects and modifications to already existing projects that maximize the foundation’s investments in African health. The ADAHI will be responsible for program management, including the design, implementation, and
evaluation of a plan to monitor and create AHI grants. S/he will manage the AHI budget and find ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency. S/he will also be responsible for building relationships with the global health community, presenting updates and assessments to the Board of Trustees, prepare and deliver briefing materials and reports on Initiative projects at national and international meetings, and assure that the Foundation is truly international in scope.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires an advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.D. preferred) in medicine or public health and 8+ years of related work experience in global health. The ideal candidate will have experience managing complex, multi-site health projects including substantive experience working on Africa-focused health projects. S/he will have the ability to strategize, conceptualize,
and plan projects as well as analyze health data critically. The ideal candidate will have outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written (published works preferred), and have a record of success in providing leadership to a team of strong, creative people to achieve common goals. S/he must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time. SALARY: $150K plus.
