Overview:
AIR’s International Development Program seeks to enhance the capacity of developing countries to improve their quality of life through education and social development. We have worked in collaboration with local partners in more than 80 countries over the past three decades. In partnership with others, we seek to: ensure children’s equitable access to all levels of education; improve the quality and relevance of education; and empower individuals, communities, and institutions as agents of social and behavioral change. Headquartered in Washington, DC, AIR is recruiting candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Party for a proposed international education program in Ethiopia.

Responsibilities
The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will provide support to the COP for vision, technical leadership and management oversight for the project. The DCOP will play an essential role coordinating and managing relations with partner organizations and institutions, monitoring and evaluation and impact reporting. This individual will support and maintain systems for project operations, helping to ensure that all contractual deadlines are met and targets are achieved. The DCOP will deal with partner organizations and coordinate with USAID and other donors in specified aspects of project planning, monitoring, and execution.

Required Qualifications
Interested candidates should possess the following qualifications: Advanced degree in education, management or related field; 8 years of experience working in education in Africa or other field directly related to the tasks in the SOW; 8 years previous experience working in education, human capacity development and educational research; experience in managing teacher development program interventions, especially in primary education; understanding of quality and gender issues in basic education is essential; Strong knowledge of the MOE, RSEBs, TEIs and woredas is required. Excellent English oral and written communication skills are also required.

Desired Qualifications
Strong candidates will also have a proficient or better level of Amharic; knowledge of USAID regulations; detailed understanding of Ethiopia’s education sector, planning and management, and education issues.
